Work as a Personal Assistant

Personal Assistant (PA) roles are varied, challenging and rewarding. Every day is different, but you will always be supporting your employer, a disabled person, to lead the life that they choose.

PAs support disabled people to do daily activities that they may be unable or find difficult to do alone. Specific responsibilities are decided by the employer but this could include tasks such as helping around the house, driving to appointments, some personal care or even accompanying them to the cinema. 

Previous experience isn’t always necessary with this role, as much as reliability, willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

Roles are usually part time, and are sometimes flexible so could be fitted in around other responsibilities – as agreed with the employer.

Personal Assistant Register

WECIL will be holding a register of people interested in being considered for Personal Assistance work. This register will be made available to Disabled people and Parents looking for staff who may then make contact with those listed. The work is rewarding and enables Disabled people to have real independence and inclusion in community life.

Filton- 32 hrs p/w

Main Duties

Young Disabled women living in Filton area of Bristol requires Personal care assistant to help with daily domestic tasks: School run, meal prep, shopping, cleaning, ironing, appointments and basic gardening, occasional grooming support required

Personal Qualities and Attributes Required

  • Responsible, self-motivated, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Excellent time-keeping.
  • Confident in working with children and young people
  • Good communication and social skills.
  • To respect confidentiality and privacy.

Hours: Up to 32hrs hours per week – Monday to Friday, hours are currently under review.

Shifts: prompt 8.30 am start, finish times may vary

Pay: £8.77 per hour

 To provide support to a sociable elderly lady living in St George.

The client is looking for someone reliable, compassionate and sociable. Someone with a sense of humour is a must!

Duties will include supporting with tasks inside the home such as housekeeping and cleaning, maintaining the home, changing bedding, support with medication and creams, preparing drinks, laying out clothes and dressing, meal prep and support with washing when required, along with accessing the community and companionship.

Rate of Pay: 9.00 per hour

Hours required:

10.5hrs per week, days and times as below.

Morning visits 7.30am – 8.30am Monday – Sunday

Evening visits 6pm-6.30pm Monday – Sunday

Some occasional flexible hours for accessing the community/attending clubs and appointments, plus opportunity of more hours for the right person.

Client is happy to split these shifts between multiple carers if required.

Main Duties

To provide support to an 18 year old young man from Hengrove with Global Developmental Delay. Enabling him to access the community and to build on his independence and confidence. He enjoys going to the gym, bowling and other physical activities. PA will be energetic and self-motivated.

Duties will include supporting with activities outside of the family home such as local clubs, gym, swimming etc.

Some minimal personal care support as required. An understanding of Makaton would be useful as the young man is nonverbal and uses some Makaton to communicate at times.
