WECIL celebrates 15 years
Tuesday June 29 2010
At WECIL we are very proud to be celebrating our 15th year as an organisation that provides services and support for disabled people.
On Friday 16th April we held a special event in celebration of this and were honoured that it was so well attended by friends, members, service users and professionals some of which are new to WECIL but many of whom have been associated with us from the early days in 1995.
Ruth Pickersgill has been involved from our inception and she was our first Director, she joined us as a member of the Question Time panel and so was able to provide an entertaining account of our early days and her involvement at WECIL.
We had musical entertainment provided by Alan Dyte, one of our service users and a fun version of community singing led by two of our staff members who undertake youth work.
The final activity for the afternoon was to consider where we would like WECIL to be in fifteen years time. Stephen Hodgkins from Disability Lib led the group discussions; he even brought his crystal ball with him to inspire us all.
The main event for all of us was the opportunity to reminisce, share memories and look to the future with a real sense of anticipation.
Our fifteenth birthday party has reminded us of the importance of treasuring our memories and as part of this we have commissioned a picture to show the WECIL “journey” so far.
If, when reading this you are reminded of any WECIL memories or stories that you would like to share with us or if you have pictures that we can put in our WECIL memory bank, please do not hesitate to contact Kath Tobin (PA to Chief Executive Officer) either by phone on 0117 903 8908, by email: patochiefexecutive@wecil.co.uk or
by post at WECIL, The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol, BS16 2QQ.
