WECIL nominated as User Led Organisation Development Hub

WECIL nominated as User Led Organisation Development Hub for Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
The Department of Health has allocated the South West Region £175k to build capacity of User Led Organisations (ULO) to support the implementation of "Putting People First", often referred to as the Personalisation Agenda.
This funding is also from the Office for Disability Issues, who are keen to build ULO capacity to support the roll out of "Right to Control", which aims to extend the range of services covered in people's Individual Budget allocation - for example, to include money for Access to Work as well as social care support. This will mean that ULO's will be needed to offer more help and advice to people to ensure that they are able to use their financial allocation as creatively as possible to achieve the outcomes that they want.
WECIL has been selected to be the User Led Organisation Development Hub for Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) and South Gloucestershire.
We will receive funding to support capacity building of ULO's in the area, in line with recommendations in the Governments ‘Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People’ report which was published in 2005. We aim to work in partnership with a whole range of ULOs (disabled people, older people, people with learning difficulties and those with mental health support needs) to share knowledge and expertise, and will be identifying where joint approaches will be helpful to building capacity. The key aim of the funding is to ensure there is a minimum of one ULO in each of the localities listed, which is able to provide a range of services to all client groups to enable them to achieve the outcomes that they want. We are working up project plans for each of the areas, in consultation with other ULO's, who are liaising with their local Council to check out their priorities for this work. We are also seeking match funding from the Councils to support this project.
If you are a ULO in the areas mentioned and you would like to be involved please contact us. At the request of Bristol City Council, WECIL already has plans to set up a User Led Organisation Forum in the area. We will announce the date of the first meeting of the forum on our events page.
