The Peer Support Community has had the pleasure of working with Charles Stuart. Charles has Asperger's and was introduced to Peer Support in 2013 by Macmillan cancer care, as he felt he needed more support around his mental health. After enjoying a year of being part of the Peer Support Community Charles became a regular volunteer for the Peer Support team. Most recently Charles has been supporting the delivery of the ‘Fun Chemistry’ sessions that are funded by the Royal Chemistry Society.
WECIL have been extremely fortunate to have Charles volunteer on this project as he has a Master’s Degree in Chemistry. His passion and in depth knowledge for the subject has seen him deliver fun and interesting chemistry sessions to the Peer Support Community.
"I enjoy telling people my knowledge and greatly enjoyed the fruit and veg PH activity as it's an experiment that I didn't know the answers before starting"
"The groups have enjoyed the balloon and cake experiments and might now realise that chemical reactions happen around them every day"
After successfully volunteering with Peer Support, Charles was able to return to employment in a part time paid role after he received support from WECIL’s employment Specialist, Alison Browning.
On behalf of WECIL we would like to say a huge thank you to Charles for all of his hard work and dedication. He has really brought our Chemistry Sessions to life.

Everyone should be able to access a toilet. We hope hope that this case makes other venues and organisations think about accessibility so that everyone can enjoy days out like this https://t.co/FmHAEJwS0C #accessibility #ChangingPlaces— WECIL Bristol (@WECILBristol) May 25, 2018
