Rupa’s Story

April 10th, 2019

WECIL are committed to supporting disabled people to find and sustain work if they have the capacity to do so. Our approach is to work on removing the barriers to employment to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities. We were delighted to have worked alongside Rupa Ray, a dedicated and extremely positive team member at WECIL.

Rupa was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a condition that affects your peripheral vision (also known as your side vision) and make it difficult for you to see in dim light or in the dark. Your central vision can also become affected. Because of this, Rupa had to leave her previous job as her loss of vision made it impossible to continue.

After the initial shock, Rupa contacted the RNIB who supported her to find a more suitable role. Keen to continue employment, Rupa enrolled on a course and promptly applied for different roles.

We were happy that Rupa chose to come and work at WECIL, her positive and enthusiastic approach made her a really valuable member of the team.

‘’I was really happy to join the WECIL team, who were supportive from the beginning. The office space and environment were fully accessible right from the start so no changes needed to be made which eased my anxieties from previous experiences.’’

Before Rupa came to work with us she was supported by RNIB, you can watch her story here. https://www.rnib.org.uk/donations-and-fundraising/help-us-support-more-journeys-back-work?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=dm-pivotal&utm_campaign=april-appeal
